• Marine Corps Drill Instructors are reported to use Scotch Guard on the inside of their Charlie (Khaki) shirts in order to prevent sweat from coming through on hot days.
• Make sure you wash new Utility or ACU type uniforms before have name tapes sewn on so they don't shrink after the tapes are on.
• Use a web belt or stiff piece of cardboard behind your ribbon mounts.
• Use a nickel to measure the correct distance between the top of the pocket and the bottom of ribbon mount (Marine Corps).
• Insert a small paper clip at the end of your web belt (from the bottom)  to hold your belt exactly in place.
• Cut and shape a coat hanger to lift the back of your Barracks Cover or Frame Cap. (For white covers make sure the coat hanger is wrapped in duct tape so it doesn't stain the white with rust).  The bent hanger should fit exactly in the back of the cover and push the back of the cover up.
• Keep a piece of white chalk handy anytime you are wearing White Dress Uniforms (Covers, hats, gloves, trousers and/or blouses and coats).  The chalk will help you hide any small stains on the fly.
• Gortex boot socks are a good solution to water proof boots.  They won't keep your boots from getting wet, but will keep your feet dry in the field.
• Unless you've done it at least 100 times, don't mount your own medals.
