Regular Detergent OK for use on USAF ABUs

The Air Force has authorized Airmen to use regular detergent, regardless if it contains optical brighteners, when washing the Airmen Battle Uniform (ABU).

The Army released a memo on 25 March concluding that optical brighteners do not pose a detection threat to the wearer in operational environments.  After conducting  follow-on evaluations the Air Force determined detergents containing optical brighteners caused no damage to the uniform.

Any detergent can be used to launder the ABU, but fabric softeners and bleach should be avoided.
