Air Force Chief of Staff Defers Decision on Heritage Service Coat until Summer 2009.
The Air Force Chief of Staff, Gen. Norton A. Schwartz, announced he's deferring a decision on the Air Force Heritage Service Coat until the summer of 09. He has directed the deputy Chief of Staff for Manpower, Personnel and Services to look into issues with the services' current uniform items. General Newton was quoted as saying he is "going to fix, improve and upgrade uniforms in our current inventory."
The Heritage Service Coat has not been canceled. The wear test will continue to its previously scheduled end date on 31 Oct, 2008. Air Force officials will review comments and present findings to General Schwartz for decision next summer.
A recent Air Force Virtual Uniform Board highlighted a number of uniform issues including:
-Airmen wanted a lighter-weight Airman Battle Uniform for hot-weather, better fitting PT clothing and a quieter material for PT jackets and pants.
-Airmen asked for a better fitting, more stain resistant ABU boot.
Airmen can refer to the 3-9 Sept Airman's Roll Call for more info.
