No More Navy Ball Caps

A reminder to all Sailors that Navy Uniform Ball Caps are being phased out with the introduction of the Navy Working Uniform (NWU).

NAVADMIN 343/08 released in Dec, 08 covers the rules for Navy Working Uniform wear and prohibits Navy Ball Caps from being worn with the new Navy Working uniform.  Sailors must wear the Marine Corps style 8 point cover with the NWU.

After the required wear date, Navy Coveralls will be the only remaining uniform that a Navy Ball Cap can be worn with.  Coveralls will still be authorized for shipboard use only if a Commander decides to use those in place of Navy Working Uniforms.  Sailors will not be authorized to wear Ball Caps off ship.

The Navy Times is reporting some negative feedback from sailors on the move to do away with Ball Caps.   Some sailors believe the Navy is breaking from tradition and that doing away with Navy Uniform Ball Caps will be bad for unit cohesion.
