Air Force 98th Virtual Uniform Board Results
Tech. Sgt. Amaani Lyle of the Secretary of the Air Force Public Affairs Office reported that the Air Force has announced policy updates from the 98th Virtual Air Force Uniform Board
The following is an overview of Air Force Uniform Board Policy changes:
-Effective 1 Oct, 2010 trousers on utility uniforms will be tucked (no longer optional) into boots to give a bloused appearance.
-The All-Purpose Environmental Clothing System liner (green fleece) is now authorized for wear Air Force-wide as an outer garment. (Name, rank and service designators are authorized)
-Personal Cell Phones may be used by Airmen when walking. Cell phones may be worn on the right or left sides, but must be conservative in color. Cell phone use is no excuse for proper Military customs and courtesies. (In other words talking on the cell phone is not an excuse for not saluting). Hands free devices worn on the ears are prohibited.
-Effective 1 Jan, 2010, chevron's will be worn on the sleeves of the light weight blue jacket instead of metal insignias on the collar.
-Boot laces must be tucked in.
-The Airman Battle Uniform lower leg pocket length will increase by approximately 1/2 inch.
- Airmen who are awarded the Army Parachute Riggers badge are authorized to wear it on all uniform combinations. On the ABU and Battle Dress Uniforms the badge will be blue. On the DCU the badge will be brown.
-The black Army Air Assault Badge is authorized for wear on the Battle Dress Uniform upon graduation from Air Assault School.
-Air Force Organizational Ball Caps are not authorized to be attached to either DCU trouser leg cargo pocket.
The Air Force plans on releasing follow-on messages with further guidance. The above information will be also incorporated into AFI 36-2903.
