Anthropologists Conduct Army and Marine Corps Uniform Research
Lt Jennifer Gragg from AFPS is reporting that the U.S. Army Natick Soldier Research Center is conducting research to help design better uniforms in support of the Army and Marine Corps. Thousands of soldiers and Marines have been had their body dimensions measured and entered into a database. The database will be used to conduct research and determine uniform applications for the modern military over the next 10 to 15 years. The centers research will be used to help design everything designed or purchased for future warfighters.
The Army has maintained a database dating back to WWII and is comprised of 132 body dimensions from over 9,000 soldiers. The last Army survey was conducted in 1988. Everything soldiers wear today is based somewhat on that survey. The Marine Corps' last survey was conducted in 1994.
Everything soldiers carry or wear is based upon research by Army anthropologists.
