Light-Weight ABU Delayed until late 2010
The Stars and Stripes is reporting that the light-weight version of the Airman Battle Uniform (ABU) will not be available until the fall of 2010. An Air Force Spokesman said manufacturers need more time to produce larger quantities of the new lighter weight ABU shirt.
The Air Force re-designed the ABU to be lighter weight after complaints from Airmen that the heavy fabric did very poorly in desert conditions.
New blouses will be phased in to existing inventories, according to Air Force Officials. The plan is to have airmen purchase the new lightweight blouse when their old one wears out, he said, with the heavier blouses eventually disappearing from uniform racks.
As a reminder to Airmen ABU will be mandatory by FY 11 (1 Oct, 2010)

You need to check your mandatory wear date for the ABU. A letter just issued by AFPC directs that the transition/wear date of the ABU will be Nov. 2011.
