2. Soldiers may sew on the U.S. Army tape, name tape, and rank insignia as an option at their own expense.
3. Soldiers may sew on all authorized skill and identification badges at their own expense as supplies become available.

The new Army policy allows Soldiers to sew on rank insignia, name and service tapes. Sill badges ( Airborne, pathfinder, combat action, combat infantryman's, expert infantryman's badge etc. ) will also be authorized for sewing. Those badges are currently provided in painted metal and have to be pinned to the uniform. The new policy will allow Soldiers to sew those badges to the uniform.
Combat and unit patches on the left and right sleeve and the U.S. flag will remain Velcro-only.
Soldiers should refer to Army Directive 2011-11 for complete details.
