NAVADMIN 238/11: Navy Authorizes Minimalist PT Footwear



The Navy has authorized minimalist footwear (read five finger running shoes) for wear with the Navy Physical Fitness Uniform (PTU) during Command/Unit PT, Individual PT and during the semi-annual Navy Physical Readiness Test (PRT).

NAVADMIN 238/11 defines Minimalist footwear is defined as shoes that allow the foot to function naturally without providing additional support or cushioning.  Current shoe types (Vibram Five Finger, Nike Free Shoes, VIVO Barefoot Shoes, INOV-8 Shoe and FeelMax) are authorized for wear with the Navy PTU.
