I'm going to link this to my blog b/c it has everything that you need listed. Also I would add chapstick and for waterproofing, I used gallon ziplock bags. they also sell these black plastic footlockers with wheels that were the Sh** on this deployment. Maybe throw in some bounce dryer sheets if you have a washer and dryer. For the first time guy this is an awesome list of gear and wear to get it. There are alot of guys who will thank you later.
S/F
Taco

Comment on 2008 Navy Uniform Update

Last that I checked, at least when I got out of the Navy 2 years ago. the only thing that was going to be changed were the Johnny Cash's, the Ice cream man uniform and the gas station attendant uniform. From what I understood, the dress uniforms were to stay the same. I don't know what everyone is complaining about, I think it is great that they are changing these. Granted, I know everyone would rather have the dungaree's, but they were out years ago. At least they are trying to make sailors feel like they are in the military, and not working at a citgo. Tradition is great, I loved that part, but it isn't everything.

Comment on CELL PHONES & ELECTRONIC DEVICES WILL NOT BE WORN EXPOSED ON USMC UNIFORMS

well according to some of my nco's you can not wear cell phones on your belt period but according to the maradmin as long as it does not show in uniform it is allowed can someone who accually knows for sure elaborate on this please

Comment on Army Service Uniform (ASU) streamling

I have a comment concerning the women's dress blue uniform. When I was active duty, the class A green uniform for women was embarrassing. You couldn't wear a belt, the officer's leg stripe was narrower, and you looked very unmilitary (or pregnant) with your shirt out.
It seems that the uniform board is always trying to make the women's uniforms "feminine" but instead they look unprofessional. You don't see women at the acadamies in "girl scout" hats (ex. the ridiculous pot hat) and uniforms. All they had to do was make the cut of the pants and jackets more to fit a woman. That doesn't mean no belt loop, no back pocket (which makes your butt look big), and sloppy shirts. Everything else should be kept the same.

Comment on US Military Medals Website Resource

It depends on what the award, ribbon or device was as to whether it can be worn on the Marine Corps Uniform.

The following is from Marine Corps Order P1020.43G, Marine Corps Uniform Regulations.

Chapter 5, Awards.
SECTION 1: GENERAL
5100. AUTHORIZATION
1. Marines may wear those awards described in the Navy and Marine Corps Awards Manual (SECNAVINST 1650.1), when authorized by competent authority.
2. Marines who receive awards from other services, or departments of the United States Government; or from foreign governments or other agencies may wear such awards on the Marine Corps uniform only as authorized herein.
3. Marines who served in or were attached to another branch of the U.S. military services and received a decoration, unit award, or service award of comparable criteria to one issued by the naval service may wear the award on Marine Corps uniforms, unless otherwise prohibited by these regulations.
4. Examples of other U.S. service awards which are not authorized include: marksmanship medals/ribbons (Navy/Coast Guard/Air Force), USAF Outstanding Airman of the Year, USAF Recognition Ribbon, USAF Longevity Service Award, NCO Professional Development/Education ribbons (Army/Air Force), Army Service/USAF training ribbons.
5. The Combat Infantryman's Badge or the Combat Medical Badge is not authorized for wear on the Marine Corps uniform. Upon submission of evidence to their commanding officer, personnel who earned the Combat Infantryman Badge or Combat Medical Badge may be authorized to wear the Combat Action Ribbon.
6. Officers suspended from grade and command, and enlisted personnel serving sentence of confinement will not wear any awards.
7. >CH 5 7. Marines will not wear awards on the boat cloak, cape, tanker jacket, AWC, service or dress sweater, utility uniform, or the maternity work uniform.
You can find the entire MCO at http://www.marcorsyscom.usmc.mil/sites/mcub/PAGES/Uniform%20Regs%20Chapters/Uniform%20Regs%20Index.asp

Comment on US Military Medals Website Resource

If a person has served in both the U.S. Marine Corps and the U.S. Army, can the ribbons/medals be displayed together on the same uniform? I thought we hit bottom with Zumwalt.
What are those clowns drinking who dream up this stuff ?
I served as a recruiter & the OLD uniform drew them in.
As another said, are they planning to redo the Lone Sailor too ?
Makes me ill. Almost glad I won't live to see it OR to explain it.
Pride is in performance, appearance, tradition etc.
Thanks, idiots, for stripping away some of the pride. Must be YOU want name fame.
I noticed they canvassed mostly YOUNG folks who, I submit, watch too much of everything except history, custom and tradition.

Comment on 2008 Navy Uniform Update

This entire change is a disaster. Adm. Mike Mullen hang your head in shame! Will sailors be called the Black and Tans or is that to be reserved for the Irish? The traditional dungaree working uniform has been and remains user friendly and a recognizable boundary between chiefs and those up to E6. Keep them! Dress blues have an aire all their own and carry years of tradition. Where will the traditional pea-coats go? Will the "Lone Sailor" statue also get a new set of clothes? Whites - OK with officer-style white collared shirts and white pants for up to E6. I've never been a fan of dress white jumpers. Keep sailors looking like sailors!

Comment on 2008 Navy Uniform Update

The whites & blues are tradition.
